8" CHEF KNIFE

SKU: AH-0007

This was the first chef knife I ever made so it holds some sentimental value... for this reason I have kept it in my private collection and as a test knife for long term durability and edge retention. As you can see this knife has started to develop a patina through use. Over time that patina will take over the blade and settle into a more uniform grey. If you fancy this knife you can always contact me about making a custom one, just for you.

This chef knife started life as a piece of 52100 bar stock that I hand-forged to shape and refined through grinding. The blade was then heat-treated and hand-sanded to an easy to maintain satin finish. I then stabilized some reclaimed walnut and spalted maple with acrylic resin, attached it to the blade and shaped it into an ergonomic handle. The handle then received a hand-rubbed tung oil finish that was allowed to cure for 30 days. The knife was then sharpened to a razors edge and then the handle and blade were hand-polished with a mixture of mineral oil and beeswax. Every step of this process was completed in my workshop, creating a one of a kind, hand-forged knife.
