Wrought Iron San Mai Petty Knife

SKU: AH-0018

This San Mai petty knife was hand forged with a wrought iron jacket and an 80crv2 high-carbon steel core. San Mai is a forging process that when translated from Japanese means "3 flat things" or layers. The wrought iron has a very interesting grain pattern from the way it was made 100 years ago.

It has a wa inspired handle with some extra faceting and a bit of a palm swell. The knife is well balanced and I find the petty knife to be an ideal size for everyday use. It is a great knife for most kitchen tasks and family meal prep.

It has been etched to bring out the wrought iron pattern. The handle and blade were hand-rubbed with a mixture of purified mineral oil and beeswax. Every step of this process was completed in my workshop creating a one of a kind, hand-forged knife.
